ABOUT US

The refrain, "I didn't know", is no longer acceptable.

It is our steadfast belief that vibrant, Black business communities are a prerequisite to creating and maintaining positive, prospering Black communities throughout the African Disporia. Without question, the internet and associated telecommunication technologies will play an integral role in meeting this requirement.

We recognize the difference between "surfers" and "buyers", and value the time and energy of the latter. We seek to facilitate greater patronage by Black (and other) online consumers of competent Black businesses, organizations and professionals who have invested in the creation of a web presence. We seek to remove barriers which impede the swift identification of (and provide a prompt, international nexus to) the websites of providers of the goods and services in our communities. We seek to transform ballyhooed "buying power" into meaningful "accummulated wealth".

We encourage site visitors to employ the "information super highway as a "freeway to greater love of self". We hope many of you will travel this "freeway" with us, and that we might all meet... somehow, someday, somewhere "over the rainbow".

We hope you have noticed and enjoyed the background music found throughout the site. All of the music heard on the site is carefully chosen for the statement it makes. Inspiring us and, hopefully, offering additional insight "about us".

These songs often express far more eloquently what we feel and believe. From Michael Jackson's instruction to be responsible for "Man in the Mirror", to George Benson's admonition to "find your strength in love", the music and wisdom of the lyrics seem to play in our minds at appropriate moments ... unlike lectures, speeches, and sermons.

We invite you to move your mind "outside the box" and extend the messages of songs beyond the parameters possibly contemplated by their creators. Apply the sentiments of Labelle's "Isn't It a Shame" or Rose Royce's "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" to what has happened to many Black communities, figuratively and literally.

To each of the artists and musicians who have contributed to the "soundtrack of our lives", we say thank you. Thank you for advising us "to treat her like a lady". Thank you for helping us to understand "what a fool believes, the wise man has the power to reason away". Thank you for demanding that we "respect ourselves". Thank you for remindiing us to "keep our heads to the sky". Thank you for letting us know that "the funk is so wide we can't get around it".

Some of us "got it" and will eternally be in your debt.
